Heat
activated binding |
|
Heat
activated supply binding means that the equipment has a hot
plate. The cover containing heat activated glue together with
the material to be bound is set against the plate - after
melting and re-cooling the cover keeps the pages together. The
heat activated systems simply "allow the pages to be bound" -
especially with coated paper the binding strength is very poor
compared to the Perfect binding systems.
The system
requires a pre-made cover with adhesive strip or Scotch band
with melt adhesive. No roughening or fanning possible. This
kind of system needs different cover for different spine
thicknesses. Very often the amount of pages you want is not
enough to fill the cover which means loose and untidy binding.

Pre adhesived Scotch band |

All
manufacturers in this category have made the machines so that
only their band is usable, which makes the system expensive to
use.
No
roughening or fanning is possible making it risky with difficult
paper materials.
