Perfect Binding

There are many ways to bind books, plastic comb, tape, coil, stitch, and ring, but the most popular and professional method in the world is perfect binding.

Perfect bound books are strong, attractive and easily personalized. The best solution is always the simplest and most cost effective. Perfect binding utilizes one continuous cover to create the front, spine, and back of a book. The book's content is registered squarely on the spine and is securely held with specially formulated adhesive. Think of it, you are no longer limited to plain paper, Fastbind machines allow you to bind coated and more professional looking cover stocks!

In the past, perfect binding had many limitations, the equipment was complicated, you needed special operational skills, and training was extensive. Due to these restrictions only large binderies and publishers producing long book runs used perfect binding.

The new concept for binding and publishing is "on-demand". On demand binding is ideal for short runs, personalization, and fast delivery. Printers with in-house binding capability save the transport costs to the bindery and get books directly to their customers quickly and more efficiently. You can have greater control over your product packaging, image and profitability! It's also environmentally friendly, bind only what you need to eliminate wasting paper and materials.

Traditional perfect binding machines apply glue to the spine from underneath the book. Fastbind's patented rotary binding system fans the paper and uses pressure to apply the adhesive into the paper fiber from above the book. The results are remarkably better!

  • The book is far stronger than 'old world' perfect binding machines
  • Books open flat and are more flexible
  • You can open the book and use it immediately after binding
  • The advanced non-toxic adhesive holds most coated stocks securely
  • Every book in the run can be unique
  • Bind books from 2-500 pages in thickness
  • Bind a wide range of book formats or size

Freedom of choice with Fastbind binding machines
Why purchase a system that uses custom stock or binding materials? Make your own covers or purchase stock from your local paper stationers. Because you are no longer limited by carton stock, you don't have to worry about running out of materials.

For the best results we recommend:

  • For the back cover: 180-300g/mē cardboard, max 320 g/mē
  • For the front cover: anything your printer can handle we recommend approx. 225g/mē
  • Cardboard with the fibers cross the spine
  • For a transparent front cover: PVC 0, 15-0, 20
